I knew that the pictures of Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner kissing at Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour were big news; I just thought the big news was that the couple seem to have finally confirmed their relationship. Social media, however, seemed most shocked by the revelation that Chalamet smokes cigarettes.
Photos and videos from the event show Chalamet (but not Jenner, for what it’s worth) smoking a cig inside the stadium while enjoying the show and, like Jenna Ortega and Zayn Malik before him, he has now inadvertently launched his own anti-smoking campaign on the internet.
“Smoking cigarettes at mother’s show…WHERE IS JULIUS,” bemoaned one person on Twitter—er, X. “Smoking cigarettes at a beyoncé concert i see we’ve left etiquette at the door…” tweeted another. Even Loni Love was put off by Chalamet’s nicotine habit, tweeting, “Smoking a cigarette.. this is not 1977..” The disappointment continued on TikTok, where one creator captioned the video, “At a Beyonce concert? Smoking at a Beyonce show? Gross.”
Not everyone was entirely shocked to see Chalamet smoking, however, particularly those who have a more European approach to cigarettes. “‘Omg timothee chalamet smokes ?🤢’ he’s french,” observed one Twitter user. “The way americans view cigarettes is always so surprising like those ads really scared yall,” tweeted another person over the Kylothée video.
One day the internet may learn that far more of their favorite celebrities have a cigarette habit than they realize.
