With injuries ailing a number of Toronto Blue Jays, manager John Schneider provided updates on how many of the players are progressing before the team’s spring training game Thursday.
After throwing a two-inning simulated game on Wednesday, starter Kevin Gausman bounced back well from the outing. The 33-year-old is scheduled to pitch on Monday, where he will target 60-65 pitches over three innings, but the team is in the process of deciding whether that will be in its final Grapefruit League game or in a minor-league contest.
Alek Manoah, who has been dealing with a “cranky” shoulder is scheduled for a live batting practice session on Friday. He will aim to throw 20-25 pitches over one inning.
As far as the bullpen goes, Erik Swanson played catch earlier Thursday and “felt great,” according to Schneider. The right-hander has been sidelined with forearm tightness.
Closer Jordan Romano, who underwent an MRI for elbow inflammation earlier this week, will still have another day or two before Toronto determines whether he can resume throwing.
The Blue Jays are also hopeful that catcher Danny Jansen (fractured wrist) will be able to start throwing again this weekend.
