Two men have been charged after an alleged attempted vehicle theft led to a police chase followed by arrests with the help of the police K-9 unit in Ajax.

Durham Regional Police responded on Monday at about 1:30 a.m. for a vehicle theft call in the Snowling and Rushworth Drs. area.

Police said the alleged victim saw two men trying to steal his vehicle from his driveway and confronted them before they fled in a red vehicle.

Cops found the suspect vehicle driving away from the area and followed it. Police said the vehicle was driving at excessive speeds, causing it to lose control and collide with a road sign.

Officers checked the vehicle and confirmed the suspects had fled on foot.

With the help of the K-9 unit, police searched the area and found the two males nearby. They were both taken into custody without incident.

Hussein Alibrahim, 20, of Milton, was charged with attempted theft over $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

Oday Nomery, 26, of no fixed address, was charged with attempted theft over $5,000, mischief under $5,000, and obstructing a peace officer.
