The San Jose Sharks have placed goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood on injured reserve after he sustained an injury against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday, the club announced Wednesday.
Blackwood appeared to suffer the lower-body injury late in the first period after making a save. He skated off the ice on the TV timeout on his own, but backup goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen came on in relief.
Blackwood has played 35 of the last-place Sharks’ 57 games, with a goals-against average of 3.48 and a .899 save percentage.
As a pending restricted free agent, Blackwood was traded from the Devils to the Sharks in June 2023 in exchange for a sixth-round pick.
In a corresponding move Wednesday, the Sharks recalled Swedish goalie Magnus Chrona from the San Jose Barracudas, their AHL affiliate.
