  • PML-N’s Azam Tarar says party reaching out to allies.
  • Calls other parties to accept each other’s mandate.
  • Says an attempt is being made to cast doubt on results.

LAHORE: With the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerging as the leading party in the Punjab Assembly, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has shared that party supremo Nawaz Sharif would decide who will be the next chief minister of the province soon, reported The News on Monday.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Tarar said the PML-N was reaching out to allies to decide a name for the future chief executive of Punjab. He also claimed that the PML-N’s numbers would increase to 160 in the Punjab Assembly.

The former law minister also lamented that an attempt was being made to cast doubts on the election results.

A party had reservations over the election results, but the same party was celebrating the election outcome in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and claiming that people had voted for them, he said while referring to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) without taking its name.

“We respect the mandate of all parties and expect the same spirit from others,” Azam Tarar said, adding that PML-N’s central leaders like Khawaja Saad Rafique and Rana Sanaullah were also defeated in the elections.

Following the February 8 general elections, PML-N emerged as the largest party in the Punjab Assembly with 138 seats followed by PTI-backed independents who got 116 seats while the candidates that ran as independents, without any party’s backing, stood at 22, PPP at 10, PML-Q at 7, IPP, TLP and PML-Z have one seat each.
