Shakti’s album This Moment, featuring features eight tracks by John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan, Ganesh Rajagopalan and Selvaganesh Vinayakram, won the Best Global Music Album at the 66th Grammy Awards 2024.
Honouring the best recordings, compositions, and artists from around the world, the 66th annual Grammy Awards were presented at Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles on February 4, Sunday (Monday in India). Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain’s fusion band Shakti won the Best Global Music Album for their latest album This Moment.
Released in June last year, This Moment features eight tracks by the guitarist John McLaughlin, percussionist Zakir Hussain, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan and percussionist Selvaganesh Vinayakram. In his acceptance speech, Mahadevan said, “Thank you boys. Thank you God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you…Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to.”
Grammys 2024 became even more special for India as Zakir Hussain secured two other wins. He also bagged the Best Global Music Performance award for Pashto and and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album award for As We Speak, along with Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia, in both the categories.
