Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan are proud parents right now as daughter Alia Bhatt has won her first National Award for Best Actress for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. Sharing his reaction, Mahesh Bhatt said, “Seeing my daughter receive the National Award for Best Actress fills my heart with immeasurable pride and joy. Her dedication and talent have shone brightly, and this achievement is a testament to her hard work and passion. As a parent, I couldn’t be happier to witness her dreams turning into reality.”
Not many were aware that Gangubai Kathiawadi was not in the making till the time Inshallah fell through. Sanjay Leela Bhansali was teaming up with Salman Khan for the first time since Saawariya and Alia Bhatt for Inshallah but due to various reasons the film fell through. Bhansali at that time had the dates of Alia and he didn’t want to get those wasted, so he told Alia to go for a holiday and when she comes back he will have something for her. Two weeks later he offered her Gangubai Kathiawadi.
However it took time for Alia to see herself as Gangubai. In an interview she mentioned that at times it takes about a week, sometimes two days, sometimes one schedule for you to start being the character. She added that they started shooting for the film from the portion where she was still Gangu and had not become Gangubai yet, and then the whole transition takes place with her voice, looks and personality etc.
