Entry ban in Makkah until July 1 due to Haj

As Hajj season has begun, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s traffic police has put in place tight procedures to make sure that unapproved vehicles are not permitted access in Makkah. These measures are in effect starting at noon on Friday and lasting until July 1.

To carry out this directive, the police will be stationed at numerous entry points.

Security personnel for the Haj have issued a warning that violators will face harsh punishments, including up to six months in jail and a fine of 50,000 Saudi Riyals (Rs 10,93,054).

In addition to fines, a court may order the transportation vehicle to be seized. If the offender is an expatriate, he will be deported following the completion of his prison term and payment of the fine. Additionally, he will be prohibited from entering the Kingdom for the time frame outlined in the statute.

Only individuals holding entry permits, a Makkah-issued resident ID card, or a Haj permit are permitted entry, according to instructions given to the authorities.

All forms of mobility, including cars, buses, and trucks, are prohibited at the holy city’s entrances each year.

What is the Haj?

Muslims who are physically and financially capable of doing so are required to conduct the Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah at least once in their lifetime.

The day of Arafah will fall on June 27 and Haj 1444 AH/2023 will begin on June 26.
