India’s KV Srinivasan elected ITMF president at 2023 Annual Conference

On November 5, 2023, during the Annual Conference 2023 of the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) in Keqiao, China, the committee of management of the federation elected the members of the board for the period 2023-2025. KV Srinivasan (India) was unanimously elected as the new president of the federation.

Juan Pares from Spain was re-elected and Mustafa Denizer from Turkiye was elected as vice presidents of the federation. Ernesto Maurer (Switzerland) was elected as honorary treasurer.

At the ITMF 2023 Annual Conference, KV Srinivasan was unanimously elected as president, with new and returning members filling key positions on the board.

Ruizhe Sun from China was appointed honorary life member of the federation.

The non-executive board saw the re-election of several key members. Uday Gill from Thailand, Salman Ispahani from Bangladesh, and Tae Jin Kang from Korea were all re-elected, alongside Mohammad Kassem from Egypt. From India, Suchita Jain Oswal retained her position, while Michelle Tjokrosaputro was re-elected from Indonesia. Completing this list of re-elected members, Yingxin Xu from China also continues his tenure on the board, ITMF said in a press release.

The non-executive board also welcomed new members following recent elections. These include Stefan Hutter from Singapore, Anees Khawaja representing Pakistan, and Than Duc Viet from Vietnam. Additionally, Yan Yan from China has also been elected to the board.

Rafael Cervone from Brazil, John Cheh from Hong -Kong, Muharrem Kayhan from Turkiye, and Loek de Vries from Netherlands were co-opted to the board.

Ruizhe Sun (China) was appointed honorary life member of the federation in recognition of his contribution to the federation as vice president from 2016 to 2020 and as president from 2020 to 2023.

Srinivasan has a distinguished educational and professional background in the textile industry. He completed his BTech in textile technology at PSG College of Technology in 1983, followed by an MSc and a PhD from the University of Manchester in 1984 and 1986 respectively, focusing on warp spinning technology. His academic excellence was recognised with prestigious scholarships, including the William Jones Scholarship and the Textile Institute Scholarship.

Professionally, Srinivasan has contributed significantly to the textile industry, working on a notable research project on yarn splicing post-PhD, and holding key leadership roles. He has been the managing director of Premier Mills Pvt Ltd and Premier Fine Linens Pvt Ltd, and has chaired several influential textile organisations in India, including SIMA, the South India Textile Research Association, and TEXPROCIL. Additionally, he was a member of the Young Entrepreneurs Group of the International Textile Manufacturers Federation and served as the vice president of ITMF before becoming its president.
