PM DOESN’T NEED MANSION

Re: PM’s residence at 24 Sussex may be replaced rather than restored: feds, online, Aug. 29

Well, it took long enough to finally get some common sense regarding a decision on 24 Sussex.

Pierre Poilievre was bang on when he alluded to a new residence not needing to be some over the top mansion. A very well appointed home with half a dozen bedrooms and bathrooms would suffice (maybe a guest house and pool), and could be done for a fraction of the cost of what they were going to spend renovating 24 Sussex.

There are enough venues nearby that can be used for hosting dignitaries and the like. I’m looking forward to our new PM Pierre bringing even more common sense to government.

‘FREEDOM’ AT SUCH A COST

Tax Freedom Day was June 19 this year, meaning every cent you (the average Canadian family) made up to that point is how much tax you will pay for the year. This is unacceptable, and reducing the size of all governments, by only performing core functions, is very much needed.

Add to that the enormous burden caused by all those gold-plated pensions doled out to all public service workers. The government is great at taking our money, but it is time to leave it with those who go to work every day and have the government make do with less.

A very smart farmer told me, “It’s not how much money you make, it’s how much you keep in your pocket.”

SHOULDN’T BE CLOSED AT ALL

Re: DEACHMAN: What happens when Mark Sutcliffe’s Queen Elizabeth Drive data gets driven too far? Online, Aug. 28

Columnist Bruce Deachman is always negative. The roadway shouldn’t be closed at all. Use the bike lanes that are already there. I am in my mid-80s and don’t ride a bike, and I’m not too good at walking too far. I ride my truck. Sutcliffe is right.

THEY ACTUALLY LIKE TRUMP?

From some of the past comments of some of your readers, it sounds like they actually like Donald Trump. Give your heads a shake people. If, by chance, Trump is elected as president of the United States again in 2024, kiss world peace, stability, democracy and freedoms goodbye.
