As the increasing legal troubles of the former US president Donald Trump continue to strain his finances, opponents have started speculating about the Republican and his sluggish campaign sponsorship for the White House Thursday.
Donald Trump is currently in a race against time to submit a $464 million bond which is due next week after New York Judge Arthur Engoron directed him to pay $355 million in the civil fraud case.
President Joe Biden, a Democrat, is the primary rival of former commander-in-chief Trump.
“Not a Winning Campaign: Broke Don Hides in Basement,” the campaign team of Joe Biden said according to The Hill report.
“Trump can’t raise money, isn’t campaigning, and is letting convicts and conspiracy theorists run his campaign.”
According to the monetary filings pertaining to elections Wednesday, the four-time-indicted Trump raised $10.9 million in February whereas his committee tasked with fundraising only gathered $11 million. In cash, the total amount for the reelection campaign is estimated at nearly $42 million.
On the other hand, the 81-year-old president’s campaign accumulated around $53 million with $155 million cash in hand.
Biden’s spokesperson Ammar Moussa said: “We are two weeks into the general election and Donald Trump can’t raise money, is hiding at his country club, and is letting convicts and conspiracy theorists take over his campaign. That is not a winning strategy.”
A major chunk of campaign money is being spent on Trump’s legal woes as filings to the Federal Election Commission by the group Save America — which the former president formed to defeat Biden in 2020 — reported over $5.5 million in February given in his legal fees.
A whopping $3 million was spent in January and the overall amount stands at over $55 million since early 2023.
