Re: Alcohol excise tax capped at 2% for two more years, Freeland announces, online, March 9

With polls showing Justin Trudeau now at 23 per cent support, panic has obviously set in. We saw Trudeau scrambling to get houses built after severe criticism about his out-of-control mass immigration policy that had exacerbated the affordable housing market.

Now Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has scrapped planned big increases to excise taxes on alcohol. Consumers will have a two-per-cent tax on beer capped until 2026, when hopefully the Trudeau government will be only a bad memory.

OVER THE TOP ON ADS

Re: Slick oil ads checked; Ottawa under pressure to ban fossil fuel pitch, March 9

I just read the above article regarding the ads on city buses promoting the oil and gas industries.

I’m so tired of these environmentalists forcing their views on society. I realize socialism is out of control in Canada, but comparing oil and gas advertising to advertising for tobacco and guns is over the top.

If these people really want to do something for the environment, here’s an idea: They can all have their natural gas services disconnected or cancel their propane deliveries and live with no heat or hot water.

Come on, it’s time to wake up and face reality. You want to live in the 18th century, fine, but leave the rest of us in the 21st century.
