A suspected shoplifter is sought for allegedly threatening loss prevention officers with a knife at an LCBO store in Vaughan on Wednesday.

York Regional Police say officers responded to call at the store near Dufferin St. and Major Mackenzie D. W. around 8 p.m. after two loss prevention officers attempted to arrest a suspected shoplifter and one of them was assaulted.

The suspected shoplifter managed to break free and allegedly pulled a knife, which he then pointed at the prevention officers before running to an awaiting vehicle with an unidentified driver, police said Friday.

One of the loss prevention officers was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Investigators have released a security camera image of a suspect hoping the public can help identify the man.

The suspect is described as a Black, 25 to 30 years old, 5-foot-8, with a medium build, and short black and red hair. He was wearing a dark-coloured jacket, light-blue jeans, black shoes and carrying a dark-coloured backpack.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white, four-door sedan, with a black spoiler on trunk, with the word “SECURITY” on it.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect, his whereabouts, or the locations of the suspect vehicle is urged to call police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7445, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
