Netflix series Beef has been slammed after the cast for the second season was ‘revealed’.

Hitting screens last year, the first season starred comedian Ali Wong and The Walking Dead actor Steven Yeun.

The 10 episodes followed strangers Amy Lau (Wong) and Daniel Cho (Yeun), who went to extreme lengths to enact revenge on each other after being involved in a road rage incident.

It was praised by audiences and critics alike and was also nominated for nine Emmy Awards, of which it won five.

Although it was released as a limited series, there’s now reports its set to return.

The cast for the second season is also reportedly set to feature Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, as well as Charles Melton (May December) and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla).

Despite a second season and the cast not being officially announced, Deadline has said it is set to follow ‘two feuding couples’.

‘Admittedly, this is early, and no deals are in place, but we understand that a limited season’s worth of scripts were just turned in or are about to be and that Netflix and A24 are ready to get the second season into production by late summer or fall,’ it reported.

However, many fans of the show appear to be anything but thrilled with the development, with many taking issue with the new reported cast members.

‘Why would a predominately Asian show get white washed like this?’ Destiny Jackson posted on X.

‘You know. You’re absolutely right. As much as I love Anne. They could have totally kept it Asian,’ Shaye Wyllie shared.

‘Fully agree,’ Dylan Adler added.

Meanwhile user Gavin wrote: ‘Good for Melton, and I love these actors/actress. But yes, where are the Asian families? They started the hit series, then white cast can use their successes by replacing them? Can’t we just have both? I wanna see the reunion of Gyllenhaal & Hathaway, but I also need Asian story.’

Many others also questioned why the show was being renewed despite the fact it was initially released as a limited series.

‘The audacity of Beef to promote itself as a limited series, win a load of awards in that category, then immediately announce a S2 as soon as awards season is over… that isn’t fair,’ Erin Zammitt shared.

‘Always happy to be proven wrong. But Beef doesn’t need a second season just like Big Little Lies didn’t,’ Pardeep Sahota said.

However last year creator Lee Sung Jin admitted was hoping the show would return, and that he had plenty of ideas for subsequent seasons.

‘I have one really big general idea that I can’t really say yet,’ he teased.

‘But I have three seasons mapped out in my head currently.’

‘There are a lot of ideas on my end to keep this story going,’ he explained to Rolling Stone.

He added: ‘I think should we be blessed with a season two, there’s a lot of ways for Danny and Amy to continue.’
