KOLKATA: Jadavpur University (JU) registrar Snehamanju Basu said that the University Grants Commission (UGC) will not visit Jadavpur University’s main campus on Wednesday.

Basu said, “We sent a preliminary report to the UGC on Monday, and they expressed their satisfaction over the phone. They won’t be visiting the campus on Wednesday, but they requested us to provide updates and submit the final report soon.”

Meanwhile, Union minister of state for education, Subhas Sarkar, on Tuesday said that the report sent to the UGC only covered the steps taken after the incident, with not a single line mentioning the measures the university had taken prior to the incident to create a ragging-free campus.

The UGC had requested a report from JU after a first-year student allegedly fell to their death from the balcony of the main hostel on August 9, with clear indications of ragging being involved.

Four more accused arrested
Kolkata Police on Wednesday arrested four more people in connection with the case, taking the total held so far to seven.
The arrests made overnight include three former students of the varsity.
“We arrested them last night after they gave incoherent replies to our officers during questioning. It seems that they were actively involved in the death of the student. We will produce them in a court later in the day,” said an officer while talking to news agency PTI.
