The LYCRA Company, a US-based global leader in developing innovative and sustainable fibre and technology solutions for the apparel and textile industry, launched two new elastane fibres at Intertextile Shanghai last month—the LYCRA Adaptiv Black fibre and LYCRA Adaptiv Xtra Life fibre.

Designed to meet the market’s need for durable apparel offering more inclusive sizing, enhanced comfort, and greater functionality, The LYCRA Company has expanded its LYCRA Adaptiv fibre portfolio to include two new fibres that combine the benefits of the original fibre with the added features of two powerhouse branded technologies to deliver an elevated wearing experience, The LYCRA Company said in a press release.

The LYCRA Company unveiled two additions to its LYCRA Adaptiv fibre range at last month’s Intertextile Shanghai—the LYCRA Adaptiv Black fibre and the LYCRA Adaptiv Xtra Life fibre.
The Black variant targets activewear, promising UV, sunscreen, and anti-chafing protection.
Conversely, the Xtra Life derivative extends garment life up to tenfold.

LYCRA Adaptiv Black fibre is for long-lasting activewear and athleisure apparel that helps reduce fibre damage caused by UV rays, sunscreen, and anti-chafing creams that can negatively impact a garment’s fit, functionality, and lifespan. This technology also provides durable, spun-in true black colour that resists fading and minimises fibre grin-through and glitter. Garment makers and brands can create size-inclusive garments that deliver a second-skin fit and enhanced comfort with this versatile fibre.

LYCRA Adaptiv Xtra Life fibre is the solution for durable swimwear and activewear that lasts up to 10 times longer than garments made with unprotected elastane, while also providing shaping, dynamic comfort, and a wider fit window to accommodate different body shapes. It also enables easy donning and doffing.

“Our insights show that consumers are increasingly choosing quality over quantity when it comes to their wardrobe,” said Steve Stewart, The LYCRA Company’s chief brand and innovation officer. “Consumers are investing in fewer high-quality garments they can wear longer. LYCRA Adaptiv Black fibre and LYCRA Adaptiv Xtra Life fibre add durability benefits to our most popular fibre—a winning combination for consumers and our customers who want to meet their needs.”

The LYCRA Company is also launching ‘Waste for Good’, a new sustainability brand campaign in Europe in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2023.  The messaging promotes the advancement of circularity in the apparel and textile industry with Coolmax EcoMade and Thermolite EcoMade technologies made from recycled inputs.
