Keke Palmer is set to star in the music video for Usher’s forthcoming single, “Boyfriend.” And the internet is rightfully getting a major kick out of the news, given its proximity to the boyfriend drama Palmer endured in July.
The music video will arrive on Wednesday, mere weeks after Darius Jackson—Palmer’s boyfriend and the father of her infant son, Leo—drew warranted criticism for quote-tweeting a video of the actor being serenaded by Usher at one of his Las Vegas residency shows. “It’s the outfit tho… you a mom,” Jackson quipped, in reference to Palmer’s sheer black dress. In a second, since-deleted tweet, he added: “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe. I rest my case.”
In the aftermath, Keke Palmer shared a photo dump from the concert. “I wish I had taken more pictures but we were running late!” she wrote in the post’s caption. Jackson, meanwhile, disappeared from social media before re-emerging two days later with all photos of Palmer deleted from his accounts.
Usher and Palmer both shared a teaser of the soon-to-be released video on X (formerly known as Twitter). The clip features glimpses of Palmer primping and drinking champagne in her hotel room before leaving with a group of female friends for a big night out. Usher, meanwhile, is seen getting ready backstage before a performance. “Somebody said that your boyfriend’s looking for me/Oh that’s cool,” Usher is heard singing as the track kicks in near the end.
